Harry Potter Party
For my son's birthday party this year, we had a Harry Potter party! I've always wanted to throw an HP party, so it was fun to plan. I finally uploaded photos of some of the crafty things we made for the party as well as the decor. Instead of a loooong blog post, I uploaded them to an album and added comments to each photo (be sure to click on each photo - some have multiple comments so you might need to scroll down too). Click here to see our Harry Potter party photos! Enjoy!
One Fish, Two Fish....

.... Red fish, Blue fish! Inspired by Dr Seuss! What can I say, I *love* the new mini fishes and clownfish - they are so fun and I just had to pair them with the tiny fish from the oval frames clear set and Fishy (who is also available in the Animal Wishes clear set). The new Sea of Love release is now available - so check it out over on amuseartstamps.com! And be sure to see the pre-pack special for an easy way to order one of everything at a great value too!

amuse-bouche - *Bella and Edward*

We are down to the final day of A Muse Halloween sneak peeks! And last but not least, here are Bella and Edward - based on the Twilight book series! *grin* If you visit some of the other A Muse blogs, you'll also find Jacob (well, as a wolf anyway!) and Bella's truck - so fun! For this design, I pulled colors from the meadow scene for their clothes. But I also wanted to give it that earthy twilight time of day look - so I used a new Paprika notecard and then sponged ink around the edges of the white layer. Tomorrow is the day to see all the new stamps over on the A Muse website!

Hungry Caterpillar

Told ya I had another idea for the solid apple stamp! *grin* One of my favorite things is making cards inspired by children's books, and it's been a while since I made one so I was excited when this idea hit me! This was inspired by Eric Carle's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Did you know that this year celebrates the book's 40th anniversary? Little did I know I was making this in honor of that too - bonus!

Saltbox Studio Color Challenge

The Saltbox Studio gals have a color combo challenge they are sharing on their blogs today, and I thought it would be fun to play along! The colors were Swiss Red and Cabana Blue - such a wintery combo that I decided to pull out my Saltbox Brrrr set. I've had this "red mittens" idea for this set in my head for a while, so it was nice to get a chance to put it to paper. This was inspired by one of my favorite childhood books which is now out-of-print: Too Many Mittens.
And here are the other gals who are planning to play along, so be sure to check out their blogs today too:

Magician sneak peek!

One last sneak peek for you! This is the new magician stamp! Of course he reminded me of Harry Potter, so I *had* to color him in Harry's robe colors and also pair him with the castle. I used the Copic colorless blender and shades of Warm Grey to make the stones on the castle. See this post and this for tips from Marianne on using the blender to push colors.

Hogwarts Express

The spell has been lifted! I finished Harry Potter book 7 on Thursday night, so I am no longer glued to it to find out what happens. I enjoyed it, but am relieved to be finished. And since I know there will still be two more movies, I don't really feel like it's the end - we'll still be hearing about Harry Potter for a while longer even though that was the last book. So Friday morning when I realized I'd never made a Hogwarts Express design, of course I just had to get out my stamps! The track was made by adding some faux stitching along the black line on the argyle band notecard. The sentiment is new and normally says "wishing you a magical holiday season", so I omitted "holiday season" and stamped "birthday" from the "happy birthday little dude" stamp. The "have a magical day" stamp would work great as well (but can you believe that is one I don't have - yet!) The steam is Pebbles Shimmer chalk as is the sparkle on the moon. The branch that Hedwig is perched on is one if my *favs* from the new A Muse release!

Charlotte's Web
Since my son's birthday was a farm theme and we just recently saw Charlotte's Web, I thought it would be fun to make a birthday card for him inspired by the movie. I don't have many reinkers, so I used fluid chalk cateye DTP to make the faux wood for the barn door frame. The hay and grass are also fluid chalk DTP (masked with post-it notes).Images by A Muse, white cardstock, SU Cranberry Crisp cardstock, SU Going Grey ink, Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink, Palette Hybrid ink Noir, Sakura clear Stardust pen, Prismacolor markers.
Snowmen at Night
Inspired by the children's book, Snowmen at Christmas! We've been enjoying it recently along with Snowmen at Night. I just love the fun illustrations in these books. I started by stamping the A Muse Snow Pals, then masked them and stamped the Brownstone several times. The tree was made by stamping all but the base of the A Muse Little Tree and then extending the lines on either side to make it look huge! I colored everything in and then added layers of sparkle to the tree using Stardust pens, Sharpie poster paint marker in gold and red, and Stickles. I also used Sharpie marker to make the lights outlining the buildings and windows. Snow was made by sponging white craft ink and some Pebbles Shimmer chalk. I colored the snowmen with a white Prismacolor pencil and then added shimmer chalk to them as well.Images and twinkle sticker by A Muse; SU Brocade blue cardstock; SU craft white ink; Palette Hybrid ink in Noir and Burnt Umber; Prismacolor markers; white Prismacolor pencil; Sakrua Stardust pens; Stickles; Sharpie Poster Paint fine tip gold, extra fine tip white and red markers; CM journaler; Pebbles Shimmer chalk.
Muppet Show
Inspired by The Muppet Show (one of my favs when I was little), here is Kermit and Ms Piggy (aka Petunia) on stage. Petunia and the sentiment are both part of the newest release of A Muse stamps! The red curtain was trimmed with cloud scissors and then I drew vertical lines with a Prismacolor marker.Images by A Muse, SU Real Red cardstock, white cardstock, Palette Hybrid ink in Noir, Marvy Mega scallop oval punch, Prismacolor markers, cloud scissors.
Polar Express
Guess I just can't get enough of this choo-choo! Continuing in my children's book series of cards (were you missing them?), here is one inspired by Polar Express. The misty snow on the ground is pigment ink direct-to-paper (DTP). Then I smeared it with a sponge dauber and my fingers. The light and steam on the Engine are also white pigment ink DTP - using a sponge dauber for the steam and post-it notes to mask the area for the light. There is also some Pebbles shimmer chalk over the ink on those for a little extra sparkle. Inside sentiment says *believe*.Images by A Muse; SU Buckaroo Blue cardstock; Palette Hybrid ink in Noir; Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink - Prussian Blue; Colorbox Pigment ink - Frost White cat-eye and Metallic Gold; Pebbles Inc. Shimmer Chalks; True Blue and 50% Cool Grey Prismacolor markers; Gold Sakura Stardust pen; Sharpie white poster paint maker - extra fine.
Curious George
Inspired by Curious George. The balloons and bird are from the A Muse Simple Wishes clear set and the monkey is from the Purrr-fect clear set.Stamps by A Muse, YoYoYellow cardstock by SU, Adirondack Pitch Black ink, Prismacolor markers, Sakura glaze pen on the balloons, Sharpie White Poster Paint marker. Should I provide supply list details more often?
The Little Engine that Could
Inspired by The Little Engine that Could children's book. My son loves trains - so I had to choo-choose (*hee-hee*) between Thomas and the Little Engine. The Little Engine won since it was another fav when I was little. This is the train from the A Muse Dino clear set (so fun!). The little face is hand-drawn using a Sharpie Poster Paint marker and CM black journaling pen. Inside hand-lettered sentiment says "I knew you could... I knew you could... I knew you could!"
Lift-the-Flap
Inspired by lift-the-flap kids books. I dry embossed the door panels. The stairs are strips of cardstock cut at different lengths and then layered. I used the A Muse Snow Purse for the planters below the trees. Scribbled with a blue marker for a faux glare on the windows. Sharpie poster paint marker and Art Glitter for snow. When you open the door, you find.....
Patch! Here he is as Spot from the children's Spot books by Eric Hill. This side of the door was also dry embossed. Patch, etc are stamped on a piece of vanilla cardstock and then adhered to the front of the card over an extra half inch tab of cardstock on the door.
Blue's Clues
Make-Believe Owl
Inspired by X the owl in his big Oak tree from Mr Roger's Neighborhood. I used the dotted lines stamp several times to make the bark on the tree (on an A Muse Bark notecard). Then I cut out a small oval in the middle of the card using my Creative Memories oval cutter (I tried the Coluzzle once and I like the CM system better). Then I stamped the owl straight through the oval onto the inside of the card. I love that the A Muse notecards are white on the inside - made this so easy. It also is nice when you are using a dark color card - you don't have to add a sheet of white inside (or write with a gel pen) for your words to show up. Hand-lettered sentiment inside says "Hope your Birthday is a Hoot!"
In the Great Green Room...
Inspired by Goodnight Moon *grin* - one of my favorite books when I was little. I stamped the window on white and then trimmed it (after masking and filling in the sky with fluid chalk DTP). The bunny was also stamped on white and then cut out. I stamped the lamp once on the card and then again on yellow cardstock and then trimmed it down to only the shade. The balloon was made with a circle punch and some hand drawn details.
Babar
My Patch children's book series was so fun, I started thinking about what other books I could use as inspiration and viola - Babar! Might as well use the A Muse host again while I had it out for Patch - right?. I used a black marker to ink portions of the Fairy (for the crown), Ellie, Host, and "Happy 4th" stamps. Then using the fancy frame this way was inspired by Linda (thanks!) and the A Muse card-of-the-week email. I think this is my first card using the fancy frame and I love how it gave Babar that royalty look. I haven't actually read a Babar book since I was a kid, so now I'll have to look for it the next time we're at the library!
Clifford
This is my *favorite* of my Patch children's book series cards. Patch masquerading as Clifford for Halloween! The scale of the parade kids worked perfectly to make Patch look huge! I used post-it notes to cover his spots prior to stamping (worked OK, but I'd stick with markers next time) and then colored everyone with Prismacolor pencils.
Harry the Dirty Dog
Here is the second in my children's book Patch series! This is based on the book Harry the Dirty Dog. The colors used in the book are similar to Fluid Chalk lime pastel and tangerine which I used here DTP and also with an aquapainter for the bird and flowers. I used the poppin' pastels technique to make Patch look dirty and for the little hole he dug for the scrub brush.
